The Swedish Hockey League — SHL — is Sweden's top ice hockey division and one of Europe's most entertaining hockey leagues. Regular season

The SHL regular season features 14 teams that all play each other. The top eight teams advance to the playoffs while teams finishing 9th–12th play qualification matches to stay in the SHL.

The championship playoffs

The SM playoffs are the highlight of the SHL season. Best of seven in each round means series can be dramatic and include everything from shootouts to decisive seventh games. The SM trophy is one of Swedish sport's most coveted prizes.

Match times

SHL matches are played mainly on weekday evenings and weekends:

  • Tuesdays and Thursdays — usually 19:00 or 19:30 (CET)
  • Fridays — 19:00 or 19:30 (CET)
  • Saturdays — 14:00, 16:00 or 19:00 (CET)
  • Sundays — 14:00 or 16:00 (CET)

During the playoffs matches can be played on any day of the week depending on how the series progresses.


Picture quality

SHL is broadcast in Full HD via TV4 Play PPV. Selected matches, particularly the championship finals, may be broadcast in 4K when available.
